Remarks

  • 2 mothers graduated from the programme last year after their financial position improved. Both these recipients subsequently referred replacement recipients to us i.e a single mother with 2 dependants and a family whose breadwinner father was struck down with kidney failure. The father's plight was earlier highlighted in the newspaper.

  • 5 mothers in Selayang have successfully started their own small food businesses in early April 2010 having received loans from Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia. This has enabled them to earn extra income between RM5 - RM10 daily. We are monitoring their progress. We feel that in 6 months, they should be earning sufficient income to come out of the programme.

  • Through NAWEM, 23 mothers underwent 8 weeks of training programmes in fields such as floral arrangement, baking and cooking. Of these 23 mothers, 6 of them have been selected to start their own small business. MyKasih is currently working with NAWEM to provide grants to the 6 eligible mothers. These grants are funded by HSBC. We hope to see these mothers starting their businesses in the next 2 months.

  • Janda Baik:

  • We were informed by our volunteers from HELP University that our families in Janda Baik which fall under our care of Selayang, have finally received proper tap water, thanks to the awareness and media exposure of MyKasih programme.
