UN Malaysia Awards 2018
MyKasih Foundation received the United Nations Malaysia Award 2018 this morning for significant contributions to Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The awards ceremony was held at JWMarriot Kuala Lumpur today, 24 October, in conjunction with the 73rd Anniversary of the United Nations (‘UN Day’). For exemplary leadership in promoting the ‘Leaving No One Behind’ principle and reaching those furthest behind by effectively utilising an innovative technology-driven welfare distribution method to reach large numbers of Malaysians in the B40 category, the United Nations in Malaysia presented the UN Malaysia Award for this category to MyKasih Foundation. Established in 2009, MyKasih is a non-profit organisation that mobilises donor finance from public and corporate bodies towards communities who are most in need. To-date, MyKasih has assisted in the delivery of RM240 million worth of aid to more than 260,000 low-income families and students in over 400 locations nationwide, including in Sabah and Sarawak. MyKasih’s welfare distribution system has been successfully adopted by government ministries such as the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, and state governments such as Sarawak and Johor states to provide directed and targeted aid distribution. MyKasih has also played a crucial role in facilitating partnerships towards Leaving No One Behind. It teams up with companies, NGOs, social-purpose organisations and the public sector to provide health screening, entrepreneurship training and educational assistance to low income families and school-going children. Through its aid delivery and financial literacy programs, MyKasih’s work has been instrumental in assisting low-income families in Malaysia to break the cycle of poverty. For these reasons, the United Nations Malaysia Award 2018 for contributions to ‘Leaving No One Behind’ around the 2030 Agenda and SDGs is presented to MyKasih Foundation, represented by its Co-Founders, Tan Sri Dr Ngau Boon Keat and Puan Sri Jean Ngau.
