In 2011, in collaboration with NGO partners such as Kassim Chin Humanity Foundation, Pusat Penyayang Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara, PSPK Selayang and Majlis Perbandaran Pasir Gudang, MyKasih Foundation set up tuition programmes for children of MyKasih-adopted communities from Kayu Ara, Selayang, Gombak, Puchong, Semenyih, Kerteh and Pasir Gudang.
MyKasih’s Donor, DIALOG Group, has pledged RM 280,000 towards the cost of running tuition classes in these locations for a year, where the tuition programme caters to children sitting for critical exams in Standard 6, Form 3 and Form 5, focusing on the core subjects of Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and Science.
Other MyKasih Donors who are supporting tuition programmes in their MyKasih-adopted communities include Technip Geoproduction and Langsat Terminal 1 in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
MyKasih Foundation collaborates with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Global Services Malaysia in Cyberjaya and Datacom South East Asia (M) Sdn Bhd to run separate basic computer literacy programmes for MyKasih children.
AMD launched its pilot AMDiHati programme on 2 October 2011 with 43 children aged nine to 12 years from MyKasih’s Semenyih community. The programme is structured to comprise four modules, to be conducted on four consecutive Sundays at AMD’s state-of-the-art Malaysian Cybergames Operation & Research (MyCORE) facility in Cyberjaya.
The modules comprise:
- Computer basics CPU, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse
- Microsoft Office basics (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint)
- Internet security, Facebook, creating email accounts and accessing emails; educational games (English spelling and mathematics)
- Animation (drawing) and graphics (paint brush)
After the successful completion of the pilot programme, a second batch of MyKasih participants from Bandar Tun Razak underwent the programme, and expressed the hope of returning to MyCORE for more fun and games.
Datacom launched its Microsoft Digital Literacy (MSDL) Boot Camps for MyKasih children at a brand new Datacom On-Site Community Technology Center in Bandar Utama, Selangor, on 17 September 2011. Since then, four boot camps been carried out by Datacom’s team of volunteers with 40 MyKasih children aged 12-17 years from Klang, USJ, Kayu Ara and Lembah Pantai.
The two-day course is run over weekends, at the end of which the participants sit for an online exam. Participants who score 80% and above receive certificates with their own individual barcodes that can be tracked online and used to secure employment in the future.
